Every month I publish an income report…why? Good question 🙂
1. Accountability
With all the shiny objects out there it’s easy to spend WAY more than you’re earning. Luckily I realized this early on and I’ve kept detailed records of my expenses ever since. That being said, I know that there are onvertertain expenses that are NECESSARY when running a business. As much as I don’t want to pay for them, I need to pay for my email autoresponder, website hosting, and video hosting every month. It’s just a part of doing business. There are other things that I buy as well, but I try my best to keep my expenses SIGNIFICANTLY LESS than my revenue. If I can do that then I’m ahead of the game.
2. Integrity
On my show I ask my guests a lot of personal questions. One that frequently comes up is “How much do you make?”. I feel like I need to reveal my own income if I’m going to be asking others the same question. It only seems right.
3. Perspective
There are a lot of online marketers out there who fake-it-till-they-make-it. In other words, they fudge their numbers and exaggerate their earnings in order to establish false authority in their niche. My goal is that by watching my income grow slowly over time you’ll realize that there is no get-rich-quick button.

And I’m back with another LATE income report.
What can I say? I’ve been busy 🙂
TWO Product Launches in THREE Months
Last year Brett Rutecky and I did two successful product launches together. We were able to do almost $500k in sales and put out two amazing products that people are still using DAILY to this day. On top of that, we made our affiliates a ton of money and made a positive impact on our industry.
I’m really happy AND proud about that.
So we decided that it just made sense for us to keep partnering together and do multiple launches in 2016.
We even talked about doing 8 to 10 launches this year…but that goal has definitely changed…and I’ll talk about that in a minute.
But before I do…
You’ve probably noticed that my BEST months are when I do a product launch, as I get a nice cash-injection of around $20k to $30k each time I launch. I have to admit that it’s nice…but it’s EXHAUSTING.
Even though Brett and I know how to do these launches and have a proven system that works, it can take a big toll on us both physically and mentally.
Each time we launch I lose about 5 pounds…which is great for my belly, but not great for my mental health.
Brett also gets buried in support tickets, and depending on how complicated the software is (of if there’s a tech nightmare) he can be put under a ton of stress as well.
But I’m seriously NOT complaining.
I love my job, and I wouldn’t want to do anything else, but anyone who ever tries to tell you that this whole product launching thing is EASY is full of you-know-what.
It’s work.
It pays VERY well.
But it’s work.
And each time we launch a new software it creates MORE products for us to support in our support desk. And because Brett is an ethical developer who ACTUALLY updates his previous software, it creates more work to maintain each one.
And, quite frankly, after a launch there’s simply no INCENTIVE for a product creator to keep updating and adding on to a software unless it’s a recurring payment…which none of our software is at this time.
But that is going to change…
An Opportunity to Change
One thing I want to mention is that not all products should be recurring. You can’t simply slap on a monthly payment to any product and expect it to sell. There’s definitely a place for one-time payment software, and I’m by no means saying that all of our products are going to be recurring in the future.
We will STILL have products that are one-time payments…like I said before…they’re very profitable if done right.
In fact, we’ve got TWO of them planned in the next three months.
However…
We’re at the point where we don’t NEED to make a ton of money every single month.
We don’t NEED to make that extra $20k to $30k from a product launch to pay our bills and cover our overhead.
Frankly, we have VERY little expenses in our businesses, and we each make enough from promoting OTHER people’s products to live a comfortable lifestyle.
So this is an opportunity to change for the better.
ONE is better than MANY
At the end of 2016 or the beginning of 2017 we’ll be launching our Pillar product. It’s going to be something that will be MUCH more than a one-time product, and something that is going to make the lives of our customers and partners much easier for years to come. Quite frankly, it’s going to be something that will make OUR lives easier too…which is why I am certain it will be successful.
We WILL have a big launch for this, but instead being a launch-and-done product, it’s going to be a BRAND.
It’s going to be something that people will GLADLY pay monthly for.
It’s going to be something that we will be able to create a sales funnel for and PAY for traffic instead of relying upon affiliates for our sales (as much as I love them) 🙂
And most importantly, it’s going to be something that will change people’s lives. Seriously, all hype aside…this will be a life-changer.
I know I know…you’ve heard that all before…that something will be a “game changer”…blah blah.
But I think the reason why THIS will be different is because we’re coming from a place of “how can we help people” instead of from “how can we make as much money as possible”.
That simple difference will be THE difference that makes this a true success.
But don’t get me wrong…making as much money as possible isn’t a bad thing. It just shouldn’t be the REASON why you’re creating something.
Ok ok…enough ranting…
So where did this change of thought come from? Why am I suddenly so passionate about this?
My First Event
I just got back from the UK Marketing Summit in Dublin, Ireland.
Technically, it was in the first part of June, but since I’m writing this in June, and I’m so excited about everything I learned, I figured I’d add it in here…please forgive me 🙂
But let me back up a bit here…
“I don’t need to go to events”
So that’s what I used to think. I figured, hey, I already do interviews. I already “know” everyone. Why do I need to go to an event? It’s not like I’m going to learn something new.
Boy was I wrong.
After being poked and prodded by Declan Mc, Simon Warner, and a few others, I finally booked my ticket to Dublin. I’ll admit that I was a bit nervous to meet all these people that I’d spoken with on Skype in person, but all that changed when I got there.
The first person I met was Mark Bishop. We ran into each other in front of the Dublin airport while he was waiting for a cab. We then headed over to the airport bar and had a Guinness together…a great way to seal a friendship 🙂
Then once at the hotel I was surrounded by old and new faces…and everyone was EXTREMELY friendly. Seriously, it’s like being surrounded by old friends from high school…that’s how nice people were.
Things I Learned from the speakers
I wasn’t able to get to ALL the speakers as I was hanging out at the bar, but for the ones I did get to…here’s the stuff I learned:
You just need ONE product – Chris Munch and Jay Cruiz gave a great presentation on how they’ve been running the same webinar for the last couple years now. Most people think that you have to keep on creating product after product, but they’ve proven that it’s more valuable to keep on tweaking and improving ONE product and sales pitch than it is to jump from product to product. Plus, they don’t need to launch all the time…which is a direction I’m heading in.
I know that Chris Munch offers a consultation for anyone interested in learning more about how they do this, so if this excites you then I’d suggest reaching out to him. Of course, it won’t be cheap, but he knows his stuff.
Facebook ads to webinars are profitable…but take time – I got to spend some time with the great David Schloss and his girlfriend…and of course I picked his brain a bit 🙂 David is a Facebook ads expert, and he works with some of the biggest guys in the industry, but one thing I really liked about him is that he wasn’t trying to hype up his services. He straight up says that if you’re not willing to spending $5k to $7k per month for a few months and potentially NOT make a return on it, then you’re probably not ready to hire someone to do your ads for you. That approach is a breath of fresh air, and I’m sure his honesty (and results) get him more clients than he can handle.
If you’re interested in hiring one of the best (but not cheapest) Facebook ads experts out their to run your ads then hit him up on Facebook (of course) 🙂
I need to write a book – Kevin Long gave a nice speech on how writing a book and publishing on Kindle can give your business a HUGE boost. I mean it just makes sense when you think about most of the guys (and girls) who are considered experts have published at least one book. And the funny thing is is that it’s really not that hard at all to publish on Amazon. And then you can call yourself an “author”.
Kevin has a service where he helps new authors publish their first book if you’re interested.
Intermittent fasting is a great way to lose weight…and be healthy – Chris Winters gave a really interesting talk on how he’s been using intermittent fasting to both lose weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle. In a nutshell, it involves not eating any food for 18 hours, and then have 1.5 meals during the 6 remaining hours of the day. He also works out 3 times per week for 30 minutes…and is in amazing shape for someone who is 50 years old (actually, he’s in amazing shape for a 20-year old) 🙂
He shares pictures of his progress along with the meals he eats on his Facebook wall HERE.
Anyone can start a coaching program…but should they – During the weekend I spent a lot of time hanging out with Bill Hugall. We were “online friends” before this weekend, and I consider him a “real life” friend now. In his speech he talked about setting up your first coaching program, but most people do it for the WRONG reasons. It shouldn’t be just to add a “high ticket” item into your sales funnel to make more money. It should be about actually HELPING people…and Bill practices what he preaches since I counted at least 6 successful marketers (there were probably more) at the summit who had gone through his program.
Bill isn’t currently taking on coaching students…but I think he should…and if you bug him enough about it he might open his program again.
So that’s it for this “catch up” income report. Let me know what you think in the comments below…and thanks for reading.
I’m amazed Michael.
You have gone through some big changes in the past 3 months.
I love how you are willing to create your private funnel with a kickass product.
I really enjoyed reading this income report 🙂
Keep them coming 😉
You Rock!
-Alaa.
Thanks, Alaa, I appreciate it.
Very impressive and from just a glance I see the POWER of doing interviews!
It’s not only about the interviews. Interviews are simply a value-added presell.
It’s all about finding some way to add value in what you’re doing. Most people just send out an email when promoting affiliate offers. I put in some extra work and do an interview AND a review video.
But you don’t need to do both of them to be successful. There are guys that do better than me with just review videos…but the point is that they are adding value…and if you add value, you’ll be paid handsomely for it.
Hey Mike,
I love your report and your one of the true good guys out there.
But..there are a couple of scammers out there who give the IM niche a BAD Reputation. They try and sell you there coaching programs and once they get your money they make 3 videos and you don’t hear from them again. They string you along for 30 day’s with nothing else so the 30 day refund pass bye, and they leave you high and dry. I notice you had this marketer as a guest before. But…I have followed you over the years and know you are a straight up marketer and don’t approve of such scammers. I was fortunate nuff to get my refund but.. the rest were not. I was able to get with some of my classmate and put together a facebook group together about making money online and expose some IM scam gurus. We would intreview and review some IM course out there at the same time making some of this scammers take some responsibility for their actions. We
would love to have as guest. Keep up the good work.
Unfortunately there are some people who give IM a bad name, so you need to always keep your guard up. If someone offers to coach you on something, ask them for proof that they’re actually doing what they’re teaching. Also ask to speak with past students to make sure that they’re getting results and are happy with the coach.
If you’d like to let me know privately who scammed you I’d be interested in knowing so I don’t have them on my show again.
Thanks.
Hey Mike Thanks for the support, but unfortunately this marketer is a player in the IM niche and had the proof with video results and the support from other well known marketers that a lot of people follow. The unfortunately part is he was showing pics of himself at the dublin, UK Marketing summit and sending out emails of another coaching mastermind class he is starting up. It is marketers like this who give this business a bad name. I will get with you privately with proof so you guys can be aware.
Hi Mike Thanks so much for sharing lots of great stuff with us and congrats on a kick butt past 3 months! I am trying to figure out what to get started with marketing online and don’t just want to jump in and do the same ole affiliate game and also have to create product after product launch going forward. So I am working on creating a brand as well. Since I have no list yet and need to generate income in the meantime how do you feel about someone new starting out with a higher quality plr product? Thanks much for any advice!
