A Year In Review Income Report (Including Nov. and Dec.)

Every month I publish an income report…why? Good question 🙂

1. Accountability

With all the shiny objects out there it’s easy to spend WAY more than you’re earning. Luckily I realized this early on and I’ve kept detailed records of my expenses ever since. That being said, I know that there are certain expenses that are NECESSARY when running a business. As much as I don’t want to pay for them, I need to pay for my email autoresponder, website hosting, and video hosting every month. It’s just a part of doing business. There are other things that I buy as well, but I try my best to keep my expenses SIGNIFICANTLY LESS than my revenue. If I can do that then I’m ahead of the game.

2. Integrity

On my show I ask my guests a lot of personal questions. One that frequently comes up is “How much do you make?”. I feel like I need to reveal my own income if I’m going to be asking others the same question. It only seems right.

3. Perspective

There are a lot of online marketers out there who fake-it-till-they-make-it. In other words, they fudge their numbers and exaggerate their earnings in order to establish false authority in their niche. My goal is that by watching my income grow slowly over time you’ll realize that there is no get-rich-quick button.

Here's my results for November, 2014.

So I've been sitting on this income report for the last couple of months now. Why haven't I published? Well, its a combination of a couple of things:

1. November was the BUSIEST and most PROFITABLE month that ive ever had in my life. I launched a product that did almost $50,000 in sales and that made me about $40,000 in total profits. That launch DRAINED the energy right out of me. I even lost about 5 pounds during the 5 day launch period as some days I even forgot to eat. It was exhausting.

2. On December 20th I went to New York with my wife and sister-in-law for four days. We did the tourist thing and then headed to Maine to visit with my family. On December 30th we flew to San Francisco to celebrate the New Year, and then flew back to Maine on January 2nd...and then flew to Istanbul on the 3rd. Then I had jet lag and was sick for the next week.

I'm not telling you this as an excuse, but just to show that even with all this going on I was able to make almost $17,000 in December. That, to me, is simply amazing.

So what happened in 2014?

2014 was the BEST year of my life financially. Before taxes, I earned $190,000. Last year I earned a little more than $14,000. That's a difference of $176,000!

I finally had that "tipping point" in my business where all the hard work came to fruition. Instead of struggling to break the $2,000 profit mark every month, I was easily passing the $10,000 mark and on the way to $20,000.

It’s not JUST about the money

But I don’t want this to be all about “how much money I made”. I feel like I’m getting beyond that now. I’m at the point where I can start worrying less about the cash and more about the value.

Perhaps one of those ways is investing in a $7 course and then actually implementing what they’ve learned. One way of doing this is by documenting everything that you’re doing online. If you’re not publicly capturing your journey in a blog then you are WASTING a potential marketing machine in the future. One of the reasons my Affiliate Income Secrets launch was so successful was because there was NO DOUBT in anyone’s mind that I was actually doing what I claimed on my sales page. Everyone had already seen me slowly building up over time…I had PROOF. For those interested, I did a detailed video of the results of that launch HERE.

So are YOU documenting your journey? Are you keeping track of each course that you’re buying? Are you taking action and implementing what you’re learning? I hope you are. I hope you’re treating every dollar that you spend as an education and not simply another “magic solution” that’s going to bring you $10,000 next month.

So let’s get this straight. If you didn’t make $100 online last month you’re probably not going to make $10,000 this month. It took me a LONG time to get to where I am today, but don’t let that dissuade you…let it INSPIRE you. That’s my goal here…to inspire. If I can do it then ANYONE can. But it’s going to take some hard work, consistent action, and the willingness to do the work when it would be much easier to go out with your friends or watch the game on TV. That’s the hard truth.

My Plan for 2015

I know that I’ve got to level-up in 2015. I need to take the momentum that I have going for me know and keep moving with it. I can’t let myself get complacent…and I have no plans to sit still.

Internet marketing shouldn’t just be about making x dollars per day. It should also be about investing that money. Unfortunately most people aren’t even making a dollar so how can they even think about investing money that they haven’t made yet? Instead of throwing money at product after product they should be thinking about ways they can make their money grow. So here are my goals for 2015:

1. Be easily making $50,000 per month by December, 2015.

2. Build my email list to 100,000 subscribers.

3. Buy an apartment and pay it off in full.

4. Have at least $100,000 in liquid assets (savings) by December, 2015.

5. Write and publish a Kindle book in my name

6. Outsource and publish 100 Kindle books as an alternative income source

7. Spend $10,000 on solo ads, document the results, and launch it as a product (would you buy it?)

8. Set up an auto-webinar sequence to funnel in leads from Facebook

I’ve seen plenty of marketers get to the level that I’m at now. The next logical step is to create higher end products or software. One of the nice things about having a platform such as MikeFromMaine.com and an email list is that I can try things out, package the results up as products, and then make back my investment in product sales. I feel like these “experiments” will be the best way I can help my audience grow.

And that’s my goal…for YOU to grow.

Here’s my advice for you:

1. Setup your WordPress blog- Like I mentioned before, you should be using this to publicly be documenting your journey. You can get a domain name for $1.99 from GoDaddy and amazing WordPress hosting from Traffic Planet Hosting.

2. Start building your email list- You’ll hear this over and over again from successful marketers. Why? Because it’s the MOST important part of your business. You can get your first month for free from Get Response.

3. Keep track of your spending- You don’t want to be doing your taxes next year and find out that you’ve spent $10,000 on IM products, but haven’t made a dime. Budget out what you’ll spend each month on your education and try not to go over it. You can also post affiliate links on your website to the products that you buy as you document your journey.

4. Start networking with other people in your niche- No, I don’t mean sending them spammy messages about creating “strategic relationships”. I mean truly taking an interest in other people’s blogs and products, and then helping out when you can. A perfect way to start a dialogue with someone is by asking if they need testimonials for their upcoming product launch. Better yet, buy someone’s product, apply it, get results, and THEN send them a testimonial. You’ll get on their radar for sure.

5. Think of ways you can help OTHERS- One of my favorite quotes is Zig Ziglar’s “You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help enough other people get what they want.” Follow this advice and you will be a hero to many.

If you do these five things in 2015 you will be WAY ahead of 95% of people treating their online business as a hobby. Start treating it like a business and you’ll start making “business” money.

That’s it. Thanks for all your support throughout 2014!

  4. This is awesome, Mike! It’s been a treat to track your journey the past couple of years. Love seeing you hit your “tipping point”. Proof that hustle and determination pay off. 🙂

  5. Hey Mike – I was saying to one of my JV’s the other day that you are the hardest working guys in the IM World!

While most of us are looking for shortcuts you have proven that dedication and a LOT of hard work can create a serious online income.

    More power to you!

    1. Clive,

      Thanks…yes, it’s been a lot of hard work…but I love it!

      You’re right…there’s no shortcut…just consistency and dedication.

  6. This Aunt is really proud of you too! Way to go! You deserve your success and keep up the great work.
    Love you both.

  7. Congrats Mike… Always enjoy reading your income reports and as always, very, very well deserved!

  8. Another great income report Mike. Love seeing your growth every time you post these. Congrats on your success – you deserve it!!

  9. Great to see your succeed. You are an inspiration. I hope you crush all you goals in 2015 and beyond. Good luck.

    1. This was YOUR year, too, Gaurab. It’s been great seeing you doing successful launch after launch…I don’t know how you do it 🙂

  10. Last, but by no means least Auntie #3 is also very proud of you. I know what you mean about that “tipping point.” I get glimpses of it and then have a slow month. I’m in the process of broadening my services!! Take care and say hi to your lovely wife.

    1. Apparently my aunts are following my blog 🙂 I’m sure I’ll have some slow months in the future, but for now I’m enjoying the rise up.

  11. Very inspiring Mike. I’ve been following you since early 2014 and really enjoy your interviews. All the best on achieving your 2015 goals!

    – Rashvin

  12. Mike, I’m new to following you, but I have to say you do inspire me to make some changes. Awesome news on your achievements so far. Congratulations!

    – Michael

  13. What a fantastic post Mike, and what an AMAZING year you have had – I sure hope 2015 surpasses 2014! 🙂

  14. Yo mike that is INSANE.

    Congratulations.

Your accountant must have lost all the socks he had with that growth.

    As usual, I am inspired.

Rock on, your accountant will eventually spend more money on socks than you pay him.

    1. Haha, to be completely transparent this is the first year I’ll be hiring an accountant. Time to graduate to the big leagues.

  15. Wow, inspiring stuff. What a rise !

All the proof anyone needs to stick at it and keep pushing forward.
I’m 100% you’ll crush your goals. Probably well before Dec 2015 too.

    Have an amazing year Mike.

  16. Really awesome post Mike. Way to go!
Personally I’ve found a lot of valuable information from your interviews.

    Thanks man 😉

    1. Glad to hear you’re getting value from them…I’ll keep pumping them out, Andre.

  17. Someone asked me not so long back who I thought was the most prolific successful product creator I knew.

I thought about it for a while. … Could it be Sean Mize? Andy Brocklehurst always has something popping up. Then there was that DougP fella who seemed to do a new WSO every few days at one point.

But… My answer was Mike Thomas.

See, Mike makes a new product everytime he interviews someone. The model is very clever when you examine it.

Free product with high value that takes around 1 hour to create and probably the same to “package & promote”. Free product leads to affiliate sales in Mike’s funnel – brilliant.

What Mike has done is develop a very effective product creation system and worked his ass off to expand it over the last couple of years.

He has not been jumping left & right into other models along the way. He persevered and now is also a successful coach to others.

Way to go, buddy. keep cranking out those products every day 🙂

    1. Thanks, Barry, I never thought of it that way, but you’re right…I’m making mini-products every day. Looking forward to getting your affiliate prize in the mail.

  18. Awesome post as usual Mike! You’re an inspiration…

And I’d definitely like to see that solo ad product! Let me know if you need a testimonial 😉

    -Zak

  19. Hello Mike.
I have been following you for some time now and i think you are the right guy!
Your blog is REALLY GOOD and I like it a lot. It will be a big help for tons of people 🙂

  20. Mike,

Thanks for the updates! It’s refreshing to see that that 190k$ didn’t just “fall into my lap while you were enjoying a vacation on the islands,” as some would like us to believe.
It took a lot of work and hard work. But you persevered and it paid off! Congratulations!
Your goals for 2015 appear to be very challenging, even for you. Best wishes on achieving them! I’ll check a year from now!

    1. Hi Mike…really great post. I’m just new to your stuff though it is clear you’re one of the good guys. Your honesty and matter of fact style is a refreshing antidote to all the flash bullshit which gives IM its bad name. Keep up your awesome progress. Cheers, Gareth

      1. Gareth, it’s my honesty and transparency that has gotten me a long way…thanks for noticing.

    2. Keith,

Yeah, it definitely took hard work to get where I am. See you back here in a year 😉

  21. Hi Mike
Congrats, its great to see your success. This is proof of your genuine nature It’s obvious and why we like checking things out at Mike from Maine. Hey, and ultimately spending some money. All directed toward everyone’s success.
    All the best in 2015

    1. Fred,

I appreciate you supporting me by purchasing through my links…without that I wouldn’t be able to do this day after day. Thanks!

  22. CONGRATS ON AN AMAZING YEAR. You really took off like a rocket.
I have followed your progress for a couple of years. I watched how hard you worked for a few thousand a month. Slowly moving along and not too exciting for one who hears about the money to be made online. But this year with your product launch and your daily shows things have jelled.
Thanks for the reporting. Your accountant should be happy.
What will the end of 2015 show? Breaking the 500,000 mark?
All the best to you and your wife.

    1. Archie,

It goes to show that hard work and determination can pay off. Yes, I’m hoping to make over $500,000 this year…we’ll see.

  23. The advice at the end of this post is the best I have heard for a while from internet marketers. Good stuff man!

    1. Thanks, Jay. If just a fraction of my audience can follow that advice then I’ll be happy.

  24. OMG i followed you since your adsense periode and the penguin update fiasco… i would say you recovered pretty good from it. Nice numbers man, congratz!

    1. Sulej,

It’s been a while since those days…thanks for following me along the journey.

  25. WOW, been following your journey from the beginning, so impressive how you got to those numbers after the hard work and all those months when you barely made money and you sticking to your plan , don’t know many people that persisted like that so publicly I think
    really inspiring

  26. Hey MFM!

I really don’t think you understand how much you inspire us! It’s real guys like you who keeps us motivated and grounded with “realistic expectations”. Please keep it up!
