Income Report for August and September, 2015 – Eternal promos…live forever?

income report

Every month I publish an income report…why? Good question :-)

1. Accountability

With all the shiny objects out there it’s easy to spend WAY more than you’re earning. Luckily I realized this early on and I’ve kept detailed records of my expenses ever since. That being said, I know that there are certain expenses that are NECESSARY when running a business. As much as I don’t want to pay for them, I need to pay for my email autoresponder, website hosting, and video hosting every month. It’s just a part of doing business. There are other things that I buy as well, but I try my best to keep my expenses SIGNIFICANTLY LESS than my revenue. If I can do that then I’m ahead of the game.

2. Integrity

On my show I ask my guests a lot of personal questions. One that frequently comes up is “How much do you make?”. I feel like I need to reveal my own income if I’m going to be asking others the same question. It only seems right.

3. Perspective

There are a lot of online marketers out there who fake-it-till-they-make-it. In other words, they fudge their numbers and exaggerate their earnings in order to establish false authority in their niche. My goal is that by watching my income grow slowly over time you’ll realize that there is no get-rich-quick button.

Here’s my results for August, 2015.

I haven’t done a proper income report since June. At first, I was going to apologize for this, but then I remembered that the reason I haven’t found the time to release one is that I’ve been busy living my life 🙂

Today I want to talk about the importance of doing what I like to call “Eternal Affiliate Promos”.

What is an Eternal Affiliate Promo?

easyAffiliate marketing is probably the EASIEST way to make money online. Seriously, all you have to do is send traffic to another person’s product and THEY create the product, make the sales materials, and do all the support. It’s amazing.

However, here’s where I think most people are leaving a lot of money on the table. They go to all the trouble of picking a product, preselling it, creating a bonus package, and then sending traffic to it, but then what? Most of the time these bonus pages get taken down or they are not set up to rank in the search engines. After that promo is finished ALL the work that was put into the promo is gone. It’s a ONE-TIME promo.

But what if you let it “live” forever online?

foreverI’ve make a conscious effort of positioning my promotions as “Episodes” and not as simply another promotion. This allows me to list them in numerical order on an episodes page which you can see HERE that will exist until the end of time (or until I stop paying my server fees). Now of course I do both interviews AND reviews, but this would work even if you’re just doing written promotions…it doesn’t really matter. It’s as simple as taking your written emails and keeping them “alive” on a blog.

What are the benefits of creating “Eternal Affiliate Promos”?

  1. seoFree Traffic – I’m not a big fan of doing SEO, but overtime I’ve naturally been able to create a stream of steady “free traffic” from Google. Over the past year, I’ve been able to get almost 100 visitors per day from the search engines
  2. episodesRolodex to refer people to – I get emails all the time from subscribers asking about different products that I’ve promoted. It’s really simple for me to refer them not only to the product, but also to my review video.3. And oh yeah…the extra CASH!See below

The Extra Cash

Let’s take a look at the income I’ve earned from both offers that rebill AND that simply get random sales from being “Eternal Promos”. The commissions below are from promos I did at least ONE month prior to the current month. So, a commission from January wouldn’t be counted for February, but one from December would (I do this so that promos I did at the end of a month don’t influence the numbers).

MonthEternal Affiliate Commissions Amount% of total Affiliate Commissions
September, 2015$2,572.3210.17%
August, 2015$1,577.336.2%
July, 2015$1,872.4411%
June, 2015$2,334.769.66%
May, 2015$1,781.3412.72%
April, 2015$2,338.8010.39%
March, 2015$2,337.0110.52%
February, 2015$1,114.574.57%
January, 2015$1,269.154.45%

You’ll notice that I make approximately 10% of my affiliate income from PREVIOUS promos. That means that even if I don’t do ANY promos during a month that I’ll still make approximately $1,500 to $3,000. Now that’s TRUE passive income.

Now it might not sound like a HUGE amount of money, but that’s approximately $18,000 to $36,000 per year…so it definitely adds up.

Start a “blog” or website NOW to set up your eternal promos

Everyone always says that they wished that they had started building their email list sooner, as it’s most people’s MAIN traffic source. Well, after your email list, your blog is the most important asset that you have. It’s your “home” online. It’s the place where you can direct people when they ask about what you do. It’s also a way of documenting your progress.

The easiest way to start your first blog is by using WordPress. I recommend using Traffic Planet hosting as it’s specifically for WordPress websites, it’s fast, and they have amazing customer service. For your domain name I recommend Godaddy. If you do a quick Google search for “Godaddy promo code” you should be able to get your first domain for $1 to $2.

Setting up a WordPress website can literally be done with a few clicks. If enough people request it, I’ll put out a detailed tutorial on how to set up a site.

The Importance of “Eternal Promos” and Income Reports

I’ve been doing income reports since October, 2011. They also allow my promos to live forever, as people are always interested in checkout out my progress over time.

By documenting your income, you’re able to keep track of it for your subscribers, but also for yourself. I have a HORRIBLE memory (ask my wife) and I often need to refer to my income reports to track how my business has been progressing during the years. For me, it’s like a public accountability journal. If I slack off, not only do I know, but my audience knows as well.

Your Eternal Episode Portfolio

As you do promos, over time your episode portfolio is going to grow. Sure, it’s not going to happen overnight, but in a year from now you’ll be happy that you documented everything. You’ll be happy that all those emails that you spent hours writing aren’t “dead” at the bottom of someone’s inbox. You’ll be happy that you have a record to refer back to when you want to see how much better you’re getting at running your business.

Closing Thoughts

scoratesSocrates said, “The unexamined life is not worth living”. I say “the unexamined BUSINESS is not worth running”. If you’re not constantly trying to figure out how you can do things better, investing in educating yourself, and trying out new things that scare you, then eventually you will fall behind.

But it’s not too late to start NOW. In a year from now will you remember what you were doing in your business today?

Probably not.

So take this as a sign and set up your Eternal promos today!

  1. Awesome content Mike..

Thanks for giving us an insight into how much work goes into doing what you do…

You provide great content and information about the products you review and the

    marketer’s who sell them …

Keep up the great work you do Mike…..

    I certainly appreciate it..

    Sincerely,

    Richard …

    1. You’re very welcome, Richard. I truly love my job, and I hope it shows in how I do my work.

  2. Hi Mike,
It’s very brave for you to publish your profits while others are hiding it.
Could you refer me some good guys at oDesk for outsourcing videos ?
    Thank you.
    Cheers,
    Alex.

    1. Thanks, Alex. Unfortunately I don’t outsource videos to odesk (it’s called UpWork now).

  3. Hi Mike,

Thanks for sharing your details so transparently. It really helps to see such a complete picture and get a better handle on the multiple aspects of internet marketing.

I have been enjoying your interviews, also very informative.

    1. Thank you, Wendy.

Since the beginning of MikeFromMaine.com I’ve always believed that transparency is the only way to go in the Internet marketing niche. There are so many people out there trying to “fake it to you make it”, so I figured I’d just throw everything on the table and show EVERYTHING.

      Enjoy!

  4. Hello Mike,

I feel confident to say that, you sir, are killing it. Very useful information on the “How to” of the IM business. I need to get my IM product purchasing under control. Too many cool and useful products.

    1. Shawn,

Yes, the key is to take the software and courses that you buy and APPLY the information that you’ve learned. Once you start applying you’ll start getting results. That’s when the magic happens.

  5. Probably, the best income report you’ve ever crafted,Mike 🙂

Now you have a big responsibility, You should make a better income report on October 😀

P.S. If you’re serious about creating your eternal promos, I recommend you go grab Michael’s Affiliate Incom Secrets
